The Sligo Borough Council in Western Ireland saw fit to award Irish Poet Laureate William Butler Yeats the first Freedom of the Borough of Sligo award; so it placed the musical group Dervish in high company when the prestigious “honor for service to Ireland and County Sligo” was recently presented to the band. A Dervish performance ranges from powerful and energetic dance tunes to sublime interpretations of Irish songs filled with fiddle, flute, accordion, bodhrán, mandola, and bouzouki. This lively Celtic group, along with Cathy Jordan’s beguiling voice and engaging stage presence, create an evening that is filled with warmth, conviviality, and inspiration.
